Leah Cairns on the Battlestar-Blog interview:

My worst acting experience... I don’t know, I had a few, but I think probably at this moment ...don’t hold me to this, because I can change my mind when I remember something different from what I’m remembering right now... My worst acting moment was doing a commercial for a Canadian beer company called Moosehead. The commercial was supposed to be... I won’t tell you the whole premise... but part of it, there are three girls and they found this secret lake and they’re running through the forest, tearing off all of their clothes, getting ready to jump into the lake. They think they’re the only ones that know about it. Okay, I’ll tell you the whole story of the commercial. Then what the girls don’t know is that there are actually three guys coming from the other side and think they’re the only ones that know about the lake. They’re on a cliff above the girls and they’re tearing off all of their clothes. Then they jump into the lake and so the girls see them naked and they get all embarrassed, but then the guys surface out of the water of the lake and they’re covered in water and stare at the naked girls, stuck on the side of this cliff and the girls are embarrassed. And then they all end up camping, drinking beer.

So anyway... We ended up shooting this commercial on Halloween day. It was 1 [degrees Celsius] or -1 [degrees Celsius]. It was freezing! It was supposed to be summer time and we were supposed to be running through the forest taking our clothes, because it was so hot. Well really, I could have died because it was so cold outside. Because we were so white and pasty because it was winter time they had send us to tanning salons to try to get us a tan, but I ended up burning myself. So I’m in these tight yoga clothes that I’m trying to tear off while I’m running on my bare feet through the forest in the freezing cold and I’m raking these clothes over a sun burn and it was the most uncomfortable thing. Then we had to do the scene were we’re splashed by the guys that have jumped off into the lake. So the whole thing was set up, we were no where near a lake. It was just us three girls, standing there, almost naked, except for like these, what I told you about before, what they call “nip sticks”, little patches they put on your nipples (both laughing). Totally naked otherwise, except for these “nip sticks” and we’re freezing and there’s some jerk throwing cold water on us in the middle of the freezing cold forest.

Because you could see our breaths when we were breathing, we had to suck on ice cubes so we’d get as cold inside of our mouths as it was outside. I wanted to die, it was so bad! Then the poor guys had to jump into this freezing cold lake and I was absolutely convinced that no one in their right mind would let them jump into a lake. I thought they were going to put... What they do in that kind of situation is that they put in this kind of invisible floating thing that they can fill up with hot water, so the guys can actually jump into hot water inside the lake. But no, that’s only for big budget TV shows and not for a commercial. So the guys actually had to jump into the lake and we had paramedics standing by because they could have gone into hypothermic shock. They had to do it several times and I felt so horrible for them. Then they had to do the scene where they come up out of the water and stare at us. It was shot through my legs. So from the knee down, I’m naked. From the knee up I got a hat, scarf, blanket, sweater, heading pad... I got the whole thing. I bundled up and these three poor guys had to do it over, over, over and over again, going blue in the water. I was so upset for them. It was so cold outside that I cried through the whole scene. You couldn’t see, because all you could see wasn’t up from the back of my knees. It was not a good day. Oh, acting is so glamorous! (laughing)
