1) How did you decided to be an actress and how did you get to Battlestar Galactica?
I never had big dreams of becoming an actress. I spent years backpacking and figured I'd end up running a guest house or a vegetarian restaurant somewhere exotic.
Its a long story (it always is with me!) Here's the short version: When I was in India I took an acting class at an ashram and really enjoyed myself. I thought that it would be a nice hobby if I ever lived in Canada again. When I returned to Vancouver I enrolled in an acting class just for fun and realized that I was just as capable as the "professionals". So I went looking for an agent and started working as an actor shortly after. It still makes me laugh that I do this for a living! Its a great job though. I really love it!
As for Battlestar, I auditioned for the Michael Rymer and hit pay dirt! (I also hit my face on a door in the bathroom right before I saw him and could barely keep my eye open during the audition!!)
2) You travelled around the world a lot, where did you felt best?
I really loved India, Israel, Italy and Indonesia. If I had to choose though, India would be my number one favourite.
3) I read somewhere that you were once in Prague. Did you liked it here, and do you remember anything?
No I didn't like Prague. I LOVED it!!!!!! I will definitely visit again. Although apparently I am supposed to write an apology letter to the government before I'm allowed back into the country. Confused? Here's the story....
My girlfriend and I were told that we needed a visa to visit Prague. While we were in Frankfurt we went to a travel office to get one but our agent insisted that the rules had recently changed and Canadians no longer required visas. So off we went to Prague. We jumped on a train and reached the boarder in the middle of the night. Once the train pulled in a boarder guard woke us up and asked for our passports and visas. My heart sank. When he saw that we had no visa we were hauled off of the train and watched as it pulled away without us. We had no idea where we were and it was just the two of us and two officers in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. The guards wanted to deport us back to Germany but we begged and begged (actually my friend begged. I found a comfy piece of concrete and curled up and went to sleep) Finally the guards relented and sold us a one week visa for 10 times the price of a month long one! We didn’t care as long as we could get on another train and go to Prague. We finally made it to Prague and immediately fell madly in love with the city. I had never seen such beautiful architecture in all of my life. The energy in the city was infectious and we spent our week in Prague in total awe.
It was very difficult to leave after only 7 days. We could have spent our entire summer there. But our visa was about to expire so we reluctantly got back on the train. At the very same border crossing, the very same officer got back on the train demanding to see our passports and visas. We readily showed him ours but got hauled off of the train AGAIN! This time because our visas were forgeries!? We were informed that it was a fake visa and that we were lucky that we were not being fined! He said that if we ever wanted to return to Czech, that we would have to send a written apology to the government. We were totally confused as he was the very same man who had sold us the over priced visas in the first place! We didn't argue though because this man was also armed which was scary stuff for 18 year old Canadians!! I wasn't going to argue!!! I have gone thru about 4 passports since that trip so there is no longer any evidence of my "indiscretion". But I kept the passport with the fake visa as a souvenir!
4) There is a "Urban Legend" about you reading fan fiction from Helo & Racetrack shippers, and trying to act according to this on screen. Is there any truth on that?
Yes the urban legend is absolutely true!
5) I know your character is not one of the "main-ones" (but its still pretty cool though) Nevertheless, has Galactica changed your life in any way?
The best thing about being on BSG (other than getting to read the scripts in advance!) is being invited to conventions. I had such a great time at the Wolf Convention in London and I'm really looking forward to doing more this year. Brian is such a wonderful man and I thank him for introducing me to the wonderful world of cons!
6) Do people recognize you on the street and say: "Whoa, that was Racetrack"?
It doesn't happen very often but when it does I almost get offended. BSG is the only show I've worked on (other than Deep Evil) where I look worse after I go thru hair and make up! Living on Galactica is by no means glamorous and wearing that damn helmet doesn't do much for a girl's self esteem! So when someone recognizes me from BSG I get a little embarrassed and immediately race home to put on nicer clothes and throw on more make up!
7) How do you think, in your opinion, has BSG changed the look of sci-fi today?
I think that BSG has brought more credibility to sci-fi. Its a critically acclaimed show and I think that it has raised the bar so to speak. It has opened sci fi up to a broader, more mainstream audience. We are creating sci fi geeks in droves! Starting with me!
8) What do you think about story which BSG tells viewers in every episode?
I think that its dark and gritty and forces people to think outside of their comfort zone. I know that the good guys and bad guys constantly changing places has made me question my own values and belief systems. Its rare for a television show to constantly challenge viewers like that.
9) Do you watch BSG or other TV show's episodes which you're in on TV?
I am a BSG fanatic and have watched every episode. I would watch BSG weather I was in it or not! Other than BSG though, I haven't seen very much of my work.
10) Are any members of the cast a very good friends or what kind of relationships are between you?
Yes! We have been working together for years now! Of course we are good friends! (Of course a lot of us were friends long before BSG was ever made.) Its a fantastic feeling to show up at work and be surrounded by people you adore!
11) Do you receive a lot of "love-letters" from your fans?
Love letters!? No! Please refer to question 6)! Ha!
12) Do you have any idea whether your character will appear in the TV version of "Sanctuary"?
Is it going to be on TV!? Why am I always the last to find out!? I just spoke with the creator of the show and he said that there are big plans for it and that the sisters will be featured again. He didn't mention it going to TV though. I'm making a note to give him a call...
13) Can you tell us in general about your involvement in the upcoming episodes of "Kyle XY?"
That's a tough one as I don't know where you are at in the series. I'm sad to say that I don't know if Emily will be in season 3. It looks like the sci fi and Madacorp storyline might be pushed aside to give more room to the Tragers. Boo!!!!!
14) What are your plans after BSG?
Well the writers strike has just ended so everything is crazy right now. Ask me that again in two months once Hollywood gets back on its feet.
15) Did you have a New Year's resolution, and did it work?
Nah, I'm not a resolution person.
16) Is there anything you can tell us about Season 4? In how many episodes are we going to see you and have you been told when will you start filming last 9 episodes?
Here's the thing.....when I heard that Ron and David wanted to finish BSG in season 4 I thought that they were nuts! Then I found out that it was because they wanted to have a beginning a middle and an end. And I have to admit that I love that. There is nothing worse than to be left hanging! And being that this is the final season they have pulled out all of the stops. This is definitely my favourite season story wise.
I haven't been in very many episodes though because of constant schedule conflicts with Kyle XY which is too bad but inevitable. I heard that we start filming again at the end of March and let me tell you I can't wait to get my hands on the next script!!
Few quick questions:
Your favourite BSG episode?
This question is really difficult. I've changed my answer 4 times and just can't commit. Forget it I can't pick just one!
Your favourite character of BSG?
I keep flip flopping between Baltar and Tigh.......ummmmm.....Baltar!
Your favourite movie?
Today-Superbad. I've watched it twice this month. But I'm sure that it will change by tomorrow!
Your favourite music/band?
U2, and Ani de Franco. I've also fallen in love with Feist recently.
And at last there is a marriage proposal from one of our readers. Any comments about that?
Ummm...awkward......I'm sorry.....but you are three years too late!!
